General Shinseki was appointed Chief of Staff of the United States Army in 1999 and retired in June 2005, following a lifetime of military service. Born in Hawaii on the island of Kauai, he graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point and rose through the ranks with service in Vietnam, Korea, and Bosnia. General Shinseki completed his career as a four-star general and Chief of Staff.

The General Eric K. Shinseki exhibit, which was featured in the Museum's Changing Gallery from March 2004 to July 2006, illustrates General Shinseki's rise from a small town on Kauai to his appointment to the USMA, and highlights his accomplishments during his military career.
A short biography, entitled My Name is Shinseki and I am a Soldier and written by noted author Richard Halloran, is illustrated with many photos from the General's own collection. The booklet is on sale exclusively in the Museum Store.
