The Changing Gallery features temporary exhibits that often coincide with the anniversaries of significant events in US Army History.
A small theater in the Changing Gallery offers a 15-minute film every half hour about the Army in Hawaii and the Pacific area, the military history of Hawaii, and the contributions made by Hawaii's citizens to the nation's defense. Hawaii's senior senator, Daniel K. Inouye, is the narrator.
The Changing Gallery's first special exhibit in 1990 was entitled, "Soldier Artists of the Pacific War, 1941-1945" and featured original works of art on canvas. Subsequent exhibits included the 50th Anniversary Exhibit on the Pearl Harbor Attack, the 50th Anniversary of the activation of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d RCT, the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Guam, and the 50th Anniversary of VJ day and the last remaining year of WWII.
The Museum unveiled its current exhibit, U.S. Army Art, in July 2006. It features digital reproductions, i.e. photos, of original art created by soldier-artists stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The original artwork resides in the U.S. Army Center of Military History Army Art Collection.
